Call the Midwives!
Recently the Lord said to me, "Call the midwives!" I knew it was a play on words from the title of the popular Netflix series, "Call the Midwife".
The dictionary defines a midwife as a person who assists women in childbirth or one that helps to produce or bring forth something. There are specific times and seasons where God is birthing something new and this is one of those seasons.
I meet with a team of prophetic intercessors and a repeated theme this past year has been one of "birthing". God is birthing something new in the church. God is birthing something new in our nation. God is birthing something new around the world. If you are like me, He is birthing something new in you as well.
As prophetic intercessors, we function as a type of "midwife", assisting in the birthing of God's heart and purposes from Heaven to Earth. We hear what God is saying and wanting to do, and then enter into agreement with those plans. God may give us prophetic acts, prophetic words, or declarations to decree in line with His promises and purposes. As we do these things, we function as intercessory "midwives", assisting in the birthing of all God wants to do. It is a beautiful mystery that God has chosen to limit Himself to the prayers of His people.
There are 3 main phases of birth; early labor phase, active labor phase, and the transition phase. I do not believe we are in the same phase of birth in every arena, but in many arenas we are experiencing the transition phase. (Eleven is known as the number of transition, so maybe this is a reason so many of us have had a heightened awareness of seeing the numbers 11:11.)
Transition is known as the hardest and most intense phase of birth. Many have found themselves in a place of knowing that breakthrough is coming, yet feeling it may never come. For some it may feel as if the baby is stuck in the birth canal. God is calling His intercessory midwives to step into a greater role of partnering with Him to see the full completion of all He is birthing.
God is pouring out dreams and visions in an unprecedented manner. We noticed a marked increase of dreams in our church body at the beginning of the new year. God is speaking and actively involving His people in His plans. But, we must pray and agree with the breakthroughs that are on the Father's heart as He reveals them through these dreams and visions.
God had spoken verses from Isaiah 54 to me in early 2016. That passage began with "Sing O barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband, says the LORD." (Isa. 54:1)
This verse is literally bursting with God's audacious promises! And now, in 2017, it is time to see the birthing of those promises. NOW is the time of birth!
God is issuing a clarion call to gather the midwives. A clarion call is "a strongly expressed request for action". Would you give Him your "YES!" today if you feel the tug on your heart to be one who assists in birthing the plans and purposes of God through intercession? God is doing a NEW thing!
"See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." - Isa. 43:19
